Lemons and limes contain many of the powerful phytochemicals found in other citrus fruits. Their flavonoids limonene, citric acid, and citron fight cancer, while the flavonoid quercetin protects against heart disease. Ellagic acid and tannins work together to fight cancer and reduce the risk of heart disease. Their rich vitamin C content boosts the immune system, protects the heart, and combats cancer and infections. In addition, vitamin C increases the absorption of iron in the body preventing against iron deficiency anemia.
